Motor Controllers for High Speed Motors

As motor technology has developed, the capability of motors to achieve higher and higher speeds has also increased. As a result, it is not now uncommon to see motor speeds operating over 100KRPM. For certain applications, the performance improvements that can be gained at high speeds make it the obvious route to go down. However, many traditional motor control methods have not been able to keep up with these developments. Addressing this challenge in a cost effective, easy to use manner, is a primary focus for our R&D activities.

High Speed Brushless DC Motor Controllers

We have completed a range of projects involving high speed brushless DC motor controllers. If you think that you need specific support or advice for such a project then get in touch with our team today and we will be happy to help.

High Speed Asynchronous Motor Controllers

High speed asynchronous motors present a similar challenge to brushless DC motors. We have completed a number of projects in this area and may be able to assist you in this area.

Sensorless Operation is an Option

Many high speed operations have resorted to using integrated sensors as the only viable option for delivering advanced performance. In part, this has come about because high speed motor design has necessitated low inductance coil design. Many ‘traditional’ sensorless modes of operation were unable to operate with such low inductance. As a result, the motor performance was either compromised, or sensors had to be introduced.

We have invested heavily in this area in order to develop a motor drive method which can operate successfully in such motors.

Addressing the challenge of low inductance

Perhaps the biggest challenge of high speed operation is the same challenge faced by motor designers of high power density motors, namely how to address the challenge of low inductance.

We have invested in a range of technologies to manage the challenge of low inductance in a way that enables you to get the maximum performance possible from your motor in the most efficient way possible.
