On Tuesday 10th April, the Zikodrive Motor Controllers team travelled to Birmingham for this year’s Motion Control Industry Awards where Graham had been shortlisted for the third year running for Engineer of the Year (having won last year). It was a big test for Graham, following his recent victory, but one that he was looking forward to facing.

The afternoon was spent having a look round the NEC at the Drives and Controls exhibition. Special mention must go to the organisers here as the whole event was executed exceptionally well. After a few weary hours (and with sore feet!) we left the NEC and went to a local hostelry for a cup of tea and a well deserved sit down.

Following a light lunch of burger and chips (Graham), halloumi, spinach and sweet chilli wrap (Phil) and pastrami and chips (Shell) we repaired to the hotel to get changed and await the evening’s festivities.

After enjoying a warm welcome and a lovely glass of bubbles it was fantastic see and mingle with both so many familiar faces from last years awards and some new contenders.

Helen Fospero presented the awards and it was amazing to see such talent and recognition across the industry; in particular two gentlemen who received the lifetime achievement awards. It was tough competition for Graham this year; he was up against Mitch Randall from KEB UK and he was feeling a lot of pressure as he won the accolade last year:

“I am a little disappointed not to win again but I’m also really pleased for Mitch. It’s a big achievement and I remember that great feeling last year when my name was announced so well done to him.”

Thanks MCI Awards for a great evening!
